Passed Smog!

IMG_0045.JPG

After getting a catalytic converter installed on the new bus (Charlie Brown) last week, today I took the bus to DEQ for a smog check. And much to my relief... it passed with flying colors. So now comes the process of figuring out a new license plate for it before getting it registered. I'm thinking of putting a decal of Charlie Brown somewhere on it...

then having the license plate read something like "GD GRF" or "GGRIEF" or "GGREEF" if the other is taken. I have to get Michele's input along with the girls to see which they like.

Michele has been busy sewing new curtains for the bus.

I actually found the material that I think works perfect with the browns and blacks and funky plaids of the 70's. The old curtains were nice, but some were damaged a little from old water leaks (which have since been repaired with new rubber seals)

It actually only took Michele about half a day to get them all up and then I put them in the bus.

They compliment the very clean interior nicely, I think.

I've also taken care of a few minor items. One of the CV boots was torn so I replaced that. My mechanic also installed a missing door lock on the passenger side. The left heater cable was broken and that's now operational. And I gave it a nice oil change.

Not to neglect the Pickle... I took some of the leftover money from selling the Infinity and bought new tires for the Pickle that are the correct rating. (D rating 8 ply, though only C is required) Now it's very safe for our many camping trips we have planned for this summer.

Which one do you like better? They both ride smooth. Pickle's gear box is not as tight, but the ride is a bit smoother. I think actually Pickle may have a bit more power too. But Charlie's steering is very tight and the engine just "sounds" better. They both leak about the same amount of oil.. from the same general place. Not too many drips. Thankfully.

About Me

My photo
We love living in the Northwest with our two VW buses. One is green and named the "Party Pickle." It's our camper. The other is brown and is named "Charlie Brown." It's a transporter. My wife is a great co-pilot and my two girls are seven and nine years old. Our dog, Chippy, loves chasing raquet balls. Hope to see you out there in the slow lane.
