Although it wasn't supposed to be raining this weekend, we did get a few showers passing through as we tried to take our best shots.
It was also cooooold for April, almost May. It felt like about 38 outside with a decent breeze at times.

Luckily we're used to the chilly weather there and tried to prepare, by wearing lots of layers and really bundling up the kids. Wifey's favorite part of the festival, year after year after year, are the chicken tacos you can get at the Mexican food stand. Every year she asks how they make them, and they are kind enough to give her the recipe. But do you think she's made them for me yet?
Exactly.

Something else usually happens at the festival. That is, either Lani, or Kili will be my best model. For some reason, one girl is really into posing while the other couldn't care less. This time Lani stepped up her poses, while Kili complained about her cold ears.
I know the festival is about color, but sometimes black and white looks so cool.

So does color too, I guess.

I did get one or two decent shots of our youngest. When she saw how many I was taking of Lani, she decided ears or no ears she didn't want to miss out.

In some ways, this Tulip Field has been a time marker for us. I remember when the girls were so small, barely ever posing at all. Now they are growing up. I wonder what they'll look like next year... or the year after that.

I guess life is a lot like tulips too. We all wait for our chance to bloom. Then when the sun shines right, and we get enough food and care, we burst out, bigger than life.

And if you get real lucky.. they'll extend the season.. and you'll get to bloom a little longer than most.

After we took our pics, Michele ate her tacos, we loaded back in Charlie and met up with Amishman, Jasan, Troy, and Mike. Although Charlie ran a bit rough for a few minutes on the freeway at 70MPH, the engine sorted it self out and we had a nice trip back.
Until next year, my tulip friends.

Wow, those are some intense pictures. I especially like the blue/yellow one of the younger daughter. It almost looks like it was soaked in color.
Alright,

I think my jaw might've dropped when I saw the last photo with the looming clouds. Beautiful.

U are beautiful people! And you have some made photography skills! Can't wait to see your clan in Maupin!
Awesome pics Wayne!!! We have gone to the WA version of the festival a couple of times as well...amazing to be in the rows of tulips. We sent 100 bulbs to my Mom for mother's day a few years ago and it was a HUGE hit. the bulbs they send you are much better quality then anything you can get elsewhere. We are going to fill our garden with them for next year for sure!!
Thanks for sharing!
