It's about a 2 1/2 hour trip from Beaverton. We head over the coast range and up to the little tourist town of Seaside.. where we had lunch at a little Italian Restaurant..

I ordered a basil, cheese, tomato pizza and Wifey had a Caesar Salad and we split it. The girls had penne with butter and a small Cheese pizza.

Then we piled back into the bus and headed north into Astoria. We had to cross two bridges to get to Washington as we travelled over the Columbia River where Lewis and Clark ended their great expedition.

The girls were both excited and a little scared for the second bridge that went up pretty high in the air.

The wind was blowing, but it was really pretty.

At last we got to our campsite.. you can just see pickle there behind the trees....

I checked the engine temp by feeling the dipstick and it wasn't very hot. And I also noticed that we hadn't burned much oil at all. And hardly any drops were falling on the ground.. so the leaks are down to a minimum. The site (#145) was spacious and fairly private and you could hear the ocean from there. There was also a big area behind us where you could pitch a tent but we didn't bring one.

We just had to go see the beach and so we followed the little trail behind our campsite.

In only 3 minutes.. we were there. The glorious Pacific!!!

The girls ran around and played in the very fine, black sand.

The water was cold, but hey, it's the beach.. relax!

Pretty soon it was time to head back and start cooking. Wifey and I had steaks and the girls had hot dogs and the best part of all... CORN ON THE COB.

Then while Dad cleaned up, the girls and Mom settled down for a nice relaxing (yeah right) game of Go Fish. They are really polite and say... "Sister Dearest? Do you have a Starfish? NO sorry Sister Dearest, Go Fish!!"

We had a nice night and slept well. It wasn't cold with our sleeping bags to keep us warm.
The next morning we had pancakes for breakfast and then I tried to assemble my first kite since I was in 2nd grade or so. I admit without oil and grease, I was a bit confused.

But it flew, and we all got a turn flying Nemo.

After spending time on the beach... the girls... rubbing their feet in the sand...

It was soon time to head back home.. lucky girls got to sleep but Dad had to stay awake.

We had a blast.
Total miles: 240
Oil: 1/2 quart
Gas: 12 gallons
Issues: Engine seemed a bit hot on returning to Beaverton.. but bus ran fine.

Looks like the Tree family has a great and special relationship, the kind that the world needs more of. The " Party Pickle" seems to be a worthwhile investment but be careful on those uphill climbs, can't tell you how many of those things I've seen broke down or burning on the side of the road. The " Party Pickle " sounds like a great idea for a independent film don't you think?
