Here's a picture of my old bad gauge (L) and the new good gauge (R) Notice how far down the needle goes on the broken one.

Well you have to be very careful with the gauge because the needle is extremely delicate. But I took my time and got it in there. Then I filled up with gas and the gauge only read 3/4's full. So I went into the gas tank and adjusted the little float arm on the sender and now it regesters just above the full line. Perfect!

Getting into the dash is a bit trick too. 4 screws held by clips, then you have to unscrew the speedometer cable.

And as long as I was in the dash, I did one more thing. I found a correct clock for my bus.. it was an option way back when, that most people didn't want to spring for. But after searching for months, I found one for 70 dollars on the Samba. Getting to fit into the third "hole" was easy, but I also had to wire it up with a positive and a ground wire. And then I had to add in a little light so you can see it in the dark. I'm happy to say it worked the first first time!!!

I've got a lot to learn, but little by little I'm getting less intimidated and more competent at this stuff. And now I won't run out of gas. (Knock on wood.)
