With the new engine just about dialed in, in the Pickle, it was time to take a trip because man, we've had that 'camping fever.'
So the kids and dog climbed in...

And we headed off on our longest trip ever, both in terms of time and distance. Our first objective was Redwood Nat'l Park in Northern California near Crescent City.

WE had a great spot underneath the giant Redwood trees... and made our camp.

We decided to set up the tent, but this time, we didn't attach it to the bus, since wifey thought it would be nice not having to crawl through the tent to get into the bus each time.

The first night, I made my famous Jambalaya in the dutch oven, and even went as far as to make cornbread.

My wife even celebrated her birthday on the trip. Probably not what she would have wished for, but we had a good time.

And we definitely didn't go hungry.

Then after a few nights, it was on to Crater Lake.

Unfortunately if you've been there, you know the pictures don't do it justice.
We camped up the road at a place called Diamond Lake. It turned out to be our favorite camping spot yet. We got a space right next to the water. And we used our relaxing days to teach our oldest how to ride a bike without training wheels.

You can't really see it, but the Pickle in the middle of the forest you see in this next picture.

We went to bed fairly early and had a nice relaxing week.

The kids slept very little on the way back home, but we did catch this shot of the sleeping beauties.

In total, we covered about 760 miles in 6 days. I averaged about 17 MPG going up and down the mountains. The best part was I only needed about a 1/4 of a quart of oil at the end of the trip. The old Pickle engine would have used about 3 quarts if not more.
My temps are still a little high. On a few long grades we barely topped 400 degrees on the CHT gauge for a few seconds. But we'll continue to work on dialing in the engine and getting it to run cooler.
In all, it was a great trip and I can't wait to get back out there again!!!
