Interior Refurbish

While waiting for my new engine, I decided to do some much needed sprucing up of the interior of the ol' Pickle. Here are the coverings for the pop top which easily unzip allowing you to pull out the foam from underneath. I hung the fabric on a chair, then washed it in woolite on gentle cycle in the washer.. then hung to air dry. No Dryer.

This is the foam from underneath which as you can see isn't in all that bad condition, but I decided to replace it all anyway as there are undoubtedly some spots you can't see that were left behind through some 25 years of camping.

So I took Charlie to A-1 foam in SE Portland and bought some new foam.

It's a bit stiffer than the original, but their next softest choice was WAY softer. And besides, this is the best grade.

Since I was at it, I decided to stain the back and bottom of the Z-bed and it came out really nice. The hard part was taking off all those staples that held the fabric to the bed, then stapling them back after installing new foam and cleaned fabric.

And this is a sample of the finshed product. Nice crisp new foam and freshy washed material!!!

The other step was to clean the felt up under the pop top. It was filled with little moldy spots. But after some simple greeen and a weak bleach solution, it turned out like this. (I'm still going to steam clean it when it gets warmer).

I'm sure I'll sleep better at night, knowing this is much cleaner. Literally.

About Me

My photo
We love living in the Northwest with our two VW buses. One is green and named the "Party Pickle." It's our camper. The other is brown and is named "Charlie Brown." It's a transporter. My wife is a great co-pilot and my two girls are seven and nine years old. Our dog, Chippy, loves chasing raquet balls. Hope to see you out there in the slow lane.
