We're going on our first camping trip tomorrow in the recently aquired '79 sage green Westy...(Party Pickle) and I really wanted to get the sink pump working. I didn't have one of those voltage testers, but became good friends with the guy who installed my stereo.
So I went over there this morning and he tested for current and made some of the half a$$ connections professional for me. We determined we had power from under the dash, under the seat, to the switch, and finally to the pump.
So I knew the problem must be there.. I went home, tried pouring hot water in the old pump to loosen the crud (Thanks Andy) but it still didn't work. So I switched out the old one with a new one I just bought at bus depot and after doing the plumbing and electrical.. presto.. I know have a fully functional sink. Whew Hoo!!!!
Funny side note.. having read all about the sink pump on here and Type2, I knew the power for the sink ran under the driver's seat. So I asked my guy to poke the wire as it comes out of the back seat frame.. and when he did.. some liquid came out and he got this look on his face and thought he'd just poked a hole in my brake line. It was probably just some stray water.. because I did prove to him that it was the power line and the brakes are fine!!!
Now that I've won this battle, I've mustered the needed confidence to change my own oil. I've done the research, ordered the gaskets, filters from bus depot and now will get my elbows wet (so to speak) in a few weeks.
Now if I could just fix that darn flasher switch.

About Me
- Red Fir
- We love living in the Northwest with our two VW buses. One is green and named the "Party Pickle." It's our camper. The other is brown and is named "Charlie Brown." It's a transporter. My wife is a great co-pilot and my two girls are seven and nine years old. Our dog, Chippy, loves chasing raquet balls. Hope to see you out there in the slow lane.

Flasher Switch - Just replace it. I believe you can get them at Bus boys or look to a boneyard.
